Bob Reitsma’s research background is in neotropical avian habitat selection in anthropogenic habitats. He spent several years working in subsistence agricultural communities in Latin America conducting research that raised awareness about the importance of agroforestry products to bird conservation. As a product of this research, Bob brought his heightened respect for environmental education to managing Neighborhood Nestwatch, a flagship citizen-science program that currently takes place in backyards and schoolyards in seven metropolitan regions. For the past 20 years he has managed collaborative ornithological research and environmental education efforts directly in the urban/suburban/rural matrix of metropolitan backyards and schoolyards.
