Stefanie A. Kroll has a PhD in ecology from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, NY. She obtained a master’s-equivalent at the University of Castilla-La Mancha in Albacete, Spain, after working in interpretation and translation and teaching English for several years. Her current research is focused on stream ecosystem integrity in agricultural landscapes, recovery of communities after restoration, and use of multiple indicators to show ecosystem recovery. Her staff at the Macroinvertebrate Laboratory at the Academy of Natural Sciences is SFS certified and has experience identifying taxa from several regions throughout the United States as well as Spain. Previous work includes aquatic community assessment of Onondaga Lake and its tributaries, stream surveys throughout Spain, forest inventory, research on the symbioses of Sirex noctilio (woodwasp invasive in North America), and program support for a nonprofit environmental organization. She is on the Advisory Board of the Tookany-Tacony-Frankford Watershed Partnership and the Monitoring Advisory Committee of the Raritan Headwaters Association. She mentors young women in sciences through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeastern Pennsylvania and ANS’ Women In Natural Sciences program.
